THE 1997 HOT ROD MAGAZINE
POWER TOUR
Saturday, May 17 — Lansing, Illinois
to Mount Clemens, Michigan (288 miles)

5:30 am. The sun rises on the final day of the 1997 Hot Rod Magazine Power Tour.

First stop is Paw Paw, Michigan.

A fellow member of the Power Tour illustrates why “chewing is for losers.”

11:30 am. The MOTHERS® ’63 Nova SS convertible pulls into the staging lanes at Mt. Clemens, Michigan. The outside temperature hovers in the mid forties.

After nine days and over 2300 miles the Nova takes its place in the long hauler’s “haul” of fame.

It’s scary, but we actually pay him to do this. . .  MOTHERS® driver/mechanic Gary Turnau.

One of the many notable cars at this year’s ’97 Mount Clemens show was Baer Racing’s 1969 Ford Mustang Fastback.

As well as this 1948 Cadillac limo.

And this hot rod Chevy with trick taillights.

We close our journal with this picture of (from left to right) myself, the curvaceous Linda Vaughn and Gary Turnau at the Power Tour wrap-up party. What’s the story behind this picture? Truth is, I was reacting to an impromptu comment made by one of the Hot Rod Magazine editors — something about finding loose change between the cushions.

Stay tuned for the MOTHERS®’ Hot Rod Power Tour epilogue. Estimated time of arrival — May 23, 1997.
